I am a self-taught, award winning photographer, but I might not have been….

Hello, I am Angie Byers, a photographer born in Eastern Kentucky, raised in Southern West Virginia, and now based in North Carolina.

After struggling with an undiagnosed vision disorder, I spent many miserable months, until I found photography. A viewfinder was the only thing that required one eye to focus, and even after corrective lenses, I never felt the need to find any other avenue to fill the need for creativity, or healing.

Photography has healed me many times since 2007, and now I use self portraiture to seek out healing the wounds and traumas of life. I use this practice as a medicine, a balm for healing myself. It is my privilege to share the gift of hope, of healing to everyone who finds my work.

I am more than just a self portraitist, All aspects of my photography are instinctually based. I deeply love to find uncommon moments, places, and objects. I also have a passion for photographing vintage automobiles and finding places and objects with a surviving spirit.

North Carolina based photographer Angela Byers is an emerging artist, working primarily in digital and Polaroid photography. After a vision disorder led her to photography in 2007, she wholeheartedly chose to chase life with a camera, in order to catch and observe what she was often unable to previously see.”
